Microchip The latest single-wire serial EEPROM supports remote identification
Article Source:Xinrui Electronics Visitors:974 Time:2018-01-26

Microchip Technology Inc. announced that it has released a single-wire, dual-lead electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) chip with a 2.7V to 4.5V operating voltage range. The AT21CS11 is ideally suited for the identification and verification of remote devices with limited space for electronic components such as packages and cables.

Each AT21CS11 contains a preprogrammed unique serial number and five EEPROM memory areas. Any or all of the storage area can be permanently locked by the terminal manufacturer in order to track the product and identify attachments to assist in security. EEPROM is ideal for those customers who need to warranty or prevent counterfeit products, and to keep their systems up and running with authorized alternatives. The AT21CS11 is Microchip's second-generation single-wire EEPROM chip. Operating voltage of the new device expanded to 4.5V, suitable for lithium-ion battery-powered equipment such as disposable medical devices and electronic cigarettes.

The new device is connected to the system through a single input / output (SI / O) line, which is both the device's communication line and the power line. With only one wire and one ground, fiber to the home (FTTH) cable terminal manufacturers are able to add key cable characterization parameters for different types of cables. The SI / O line also enables a simple two-point mechanical snap-in or twist-out connector for single use devices that can not accommodate larger 3-wire, 5-wire and 8-wire solutions.

By fixing the EEPROM in a removable cable or housing, manufacturers can create easily identifiable or certified accessories. The device features 1Kbit of EEPROM memory (four sectors, 256 bits each), a 64-bit column number, and 128 bits for additional user-programmable trace memory. Additional storage allows designers to add unique identification and operating parameters, such as consumption and usage information, away from the main electronics.

"Microchip is the market leader in all serial and parallel interface EEPROMs, and our single line model of our product line enables customers to add EEPROM intelligence to remote devices with the simplest connectivity possible," said Randy Drwinga, vice president of Microchip's Memory Products Group.
